ENThe article deals with the changes of representative capital city space associated with the ruling institutions after the last essential transformation re-establishment of independence. The tendencies of its existing and development are discussed, as well as the alternation of verbal and other symbols. After the re-establishment of independence the main ruling institutions remained concentrated at the same places as in the former epoch; they undertake the power and functions of the former rule together with its buildings. Therefore the buildings in time acquire the symbolic meaning of power. The broadening of this representative space is related with the further development of Vilnius and the revival of old traditions. Verbal symbols of the representative main street were changed according the principle of the continuation of the pre-war state and recurrence to prewar values. The alternation of monuments as symbols of the ruling power indicates almost immutable traditions of the mighty. Foreign embassies founded in Vilnius are scattered all over the town except micro-districts that are not befit to representative needs. The states have chosen places and buildings at their discretion. Therefore the buildings of embassies represent their states in their architectural style, luxurious or modern and functional; and, of course, they are some kind of symbols of their states. The presence of manifold embassies shows the ties with the world instead of former iron curtain. The embassies contribute to the broadening of reprsententative space too. [From the publication]
