ENThe authors seek to draw the attention of Lithuanian ethnologists, anthropologists, and other representatives of the humanities and social sciences, to the Lithuanian traditional and modern body concepts. They are not only interesting, but also significant to Lithuanian culture studies. This paper presents and analyses an important aspect of the modern study of the body—shameful bodily functions. They are a very promising object of cultural studies. Unfortunately, shameful bodily functions around the world are often quite reluctantly studied. Lithuanian shameful bodily functions are still waiting for their researchers. About the Lithuanian body there is generally very little information, although it is very necessary. It is extremely difficult to find ethnographic data on necessary everyday human physiological needs, about the concept of Lithuanian shame, body structure and its functions; there is very little knowledge about how and when in Lithuania children start toilet training. Gathering and analysis of this type of information helps us better understand traditional and modern Lithuanian culture.
