ENThe new amber exposition was created and opened after partial LAM Palanga Amber Museum renovation in 2011. In 2012 Lithuanian Museums’ Centre for Information, Digitisation and LIMIS started to prepare an audio guide of this museum, for which 30 most valuable exhibits were selected. This article, prepared according to the audio guide mentioned, is intended to make a detailed presentation of the selected exhibits and to highlight their uniqueness. Palanga Amber Museum, the Department of LAM, was established at the former residence of the count Feliksas Tiškevičius and his wife Antanina Korzbok-Łąckos, built in 1897. The first exposition of Palanga Amber Museum in two halls of this residence was opened on August 3, 1963. The opening of the museum was an important event of Lithuanian cultural life. The first exposition quickly grew into an important amber collection, research and promotion centre, while the museum itself became one of the most visited in Lithuania. Currently the collections of the museum contain more than 30 thousand exhibits, 5 thousand of which are on display in the permanent exposition. Every year the exposition is improved, expanded and supplemented with newly acquired exhibits. The exposition presents two principal themes: amber formation during the course of evolution of the Earth and the usage of amber in the history of culture. These two themes consist of several subthemes, which are represented by unique amber finds and articles.
