Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article focuses on the personality and work of Shostakovich's teacher, Maximilian Steinberg. It considers the evolution of this musician and his creative thinking processes. The author highlights the relationship between the mores of Steinberg's life and art and the religious traditions of Lithuanian Jews of his Vilnius childhood and youth. Issue is taken with the mostly negative views, common in many publications about Shostakovich.
