J. Marcinkevičiaus drama "Mindaugas" sovietinės ideologijos, istorijos politikos ir istoriografinių konjunktūrų lauke

LTStraipsnyje aptariamos sovietinės ideologijos ir istorijos politikos suformuotos kiekybinės bei kokybinės lietuvių istoriografijos sąvybės, esmingai veikusios valingos užmaršties situaciją, kurioje atsidūrė ištisas ankstyvosios Lietuvos istorijos etapas, valstybingumo genezės siužetas ir pirmojo bei paskutiniojo karaliaus Mindaugo personalija. Sovietinės ideologijos, istorijos politikos instrumentų ir istoriografijos sukurtame užmaršties lauke ypatingą reikšmę įgyja Justino Marcinkevičiaus drama „Mindaugas", grąžinusi į oficialųjį diskursą Lietuvos valstybingumo tradicijos gimimo ir prie šio proceso ištakų stovėjusio karaliaus Mindaugo temą, keliems dešimtmečiams uzurpuotą Maskvoje susitelkusio Sovietų sąjungos akademinio elito. Išskirtinė Marcinkevičiaus dramos reikšmė verčia kelti ir straipsnyje svarstyti klausimą, kaip pastarajame kūrinyje išsakytos idėjos sąveikavo su sovietinės ideologijos, istorijos politikos bei istoriografijos sukurtais vaizdiniais, turėjusiais formuoti lietuvių visuomenės istorinę sąmonę.

ENArticle analyzes the different meanings of Justinas Marcinkevičius’s drama "Mindaugas" and how these intersect with Soviet ideology, political history, and historiography. The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of historiography that were shaped by the historical-political instruments of the Soviet period limited the possibilities available to Lithuanian historians for studying early Lithuanian history, the creation of the state, and the person of the country’s first and last king, Mindaugas, and his policies. The trap of enforced amnesia that formed the historiographical context of "Mindaugas" determined that V. Pašuto’s Marxist adaptation of H. Łowmianski’s fundamental "Study about the Origins of Lithuanian society and the Lithuanian State" (1931-1932) did not become, for Lithuanian society, that historiographical position that would substantially contribute to the (re)creation of a conception of the genesis of the Lithuanian state in public consciousness, or to an appropriate understanding of King Mindaugas’s role in that process. The resulting historiographic vaccum, and the obstacles presented by the conjuncture of Soviet historical politics and the historical studies produced according to historiographic axioms, were only in part compensated for by Marcinkevičius’s "Mindaugas".An analysis of the drama’s four main areas of focus (history as a space for the intersections and manipulations of different positions; the Lithuanian state’s genesis as the expression of a despot’s idea and human drama; the West as a source of constant danger to the Lithuanian nation; paganism as Lithuanian identity and Christianity as the reason for its loss) makes it possible to draw the conclusion that Marcinkevičius’s text generates several completely different ways of relating to Soviet ideology and historiographic claims: the latter are strengthened and spread, they are challenged, and the work’s author simultaneously supports and negates the above-mentioned Soviet ideological claims.
