Summary / Abstract:

ENIn the article Lithuanian art is analysed in the context of mannerism of the 20th century with regard to it as a habitual phenomenal occurrence related to the crises of the structure of the society and respective changes in the world outlook. The art of the 20lh century manifests itself in the co-existence of the majority of stylistic tendencies as well as in its multistyleness and in peculiar palimpsest of the styles, and that is what in the most general sense works the „worry“ of the European culture of this age. The comparison of historical and iconological material with the historic mannerism of the 16th-17th centuries gives an opportunity to estimate the peculiarities of art of the 20th century as specific features of the phenomenon of the mannerism of the 20th century. Creative visions of individuals as well as of grouped Lithuanian authors being accomplished by marches, performances, installations, i. e., by all possible means of expression of the conceptual art associates in ultimate concord with the general manifestations of the world mannerism of the 20th century, and that is what in art manifests itself by search for completely new artistic means, experiments of the representation in hyper-exaggerative fashion, realisation of decomposition instead of synthesis - up to the unrecognizability as well as up to the impossible return impeding the process of mutative development in artistic visions and embodying the desire for destruction, devastation and absolute death.Experiments, searches, games or even „scientific“ art experiments are those that repeat, continue and develop manneristic shapes and forms of the destruction as well as of deformation of this age. These declare themselves by acts of denial, aspirations for the absolute death and self-destruction, expressions of duality and alternativeness, the loss of the identity, essential despair, spiritual indiferentness, refined primitivness etc. — expressing by all this the most general multi-sensed manneristic characteristics of the end of this age. The provincialism of Lithuanian art is being denied in such context because the self-estimation of such kind confirms the general quality of the phenomenon of the mannerism of the 20th century which is being declared as man’s fear, uncertainty and distrust.
