Summary / Abstract:

ENLiterature researcher Silvestras Gaižiūnas overviews the road of Norwegian world literature and dramaturgy classic‘s, Henrik Ibsen's, creations to Lithuania. Ibsen's dramaturgy, in Lithuanian first heard only in 90s, in the first and second decade of the 20 th century (in Lithuania) was renowned only as literature and not as a theater phenomenon. Up to the fourth decade, the work of the writer left significant traces in Lithuanian literary life, but not in the theater – that is proved by Jurgis Baltrušaitis‘s translations into Russian; translations and Ibsen‘s work‘s commentaries by Kazys Boruta; influences experienced by creators of different styles and directions – neo-romantics Vincas Krėvė and Vydūnas, the symbolist poet Jurgis Baltrušaitis, playwright Juozas Grušas – the latter well known as an intensive creator in the second half of the 20th century. Among the illustrations for the article – costume sketches and the layout for Ibsen's drama "Peer Gynt" by the young artist Dana Minkevičiūtė, a recipient of the bachelor's degree in 2007 from the department of Monumental Art, Set Design division, of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
