Summary / Abstract:

ENThe author analyzes a contraband phenomenon - illegal carrying of goods through the border between Lithuania Minor (Prussia) and Lithuania Major (occupied by Russia), as recorded for the first time in the 16th century already. In the 19th century, the smuggling contributed to distribution of prohibited Lithuanian press. A type of a Samogitian contrabandist pictured in the Lithuanian Story by Ernst Wiehert is presented.
