Summary / Abstract:

ENArticle reviews the development of Lithuanian professional wind music instrument birbynė (reed-pipe) performers, and their artistic concert activity in concert halls of Lithuania and other countries. The first section analyzes concert activity of Lithuanian older generation birbynė players, and their performance of individual solo activities in artistic programmes with various collectives. After that the article moves on to the analysis of Lithuanian middle generation birbynė players, that already began holding solo concerts of Lithuanian birbynė music. The second section focuses of activity of Lithuanian young generation birbynė performers. The third one reviews the repertoire of Lithuanian birbynė performers, and problems of its development in Lithuania and abroad. The fourth section lists work that Lithuanian birbynė performers, presented in concert programmes. At the end of the article, conclusions about Lithuanian birbynė performers history and perspectives, their repertoire and problems are made. List of references and Summary are presented as well.
