[Market out of place? Remaking economic, social, and symbolic boundaries in post-communist Lithuania] : recenzija
LTNeformalios prekybos ir smulkios komercinės veiklos plėtra ir institucionalizavimas - viena ryškesnių permainų, vykstančių Rytų Europoje, kuriai skirta danų tyrinėtojos Pernille Hohnen monografija "A Market Out of Place?". Tai pirmas tokio pobūdžio etnografinis darbas, atliktas Lietuvoje. Tyrimo lauku pasirinkusi marginalizuotą Gariūnų turgavietę, autorė nagrinėja neformalios komercinės veiklos sąsajas su lyties (gender) ir etniškumo (ethnicity) tapatybių rekonfigūracijomis posocialistinėje tikrovėje. Šie tapatumai aptariami platesniame darbo vertės ir moralumo sampratų kontekste. Recenzijoje pristatomi atliktos studijos privalumai ir pateikiamos kritinės pastabos. Pirma, tyrėja teigia atskleidžianti naujus prekių, pinigų ir komercinių mainų konceptualizavimo būdus, tačiau naujumas yra šiek tiek perdėtas; sovietinės praeities ir posovietinės dabarties samplaikos Gariūnų turguje bei ji supančioje visuomenėje galėjo būti kruopščiau aptartos. Antra, studijoje ypač nuodugniai ir įtikinamai aprašyti Gariūnų pardavėjai, tačiau stebina, kaip menkai užsiminta apie pirkėjus. Trečia, trečiajame ir ketvirtajame skyriuose aptariami būdai, kuriais prekeiviai įgyja, maino, perduoda ar nuslepia žinias, būtinas komercinei veiklai Gariūnuose. Tai, recenzento nuomone, etnografiniu ir teoriniu požiūriu patys vertingiausi knygos skyriai. Ketvirta, lietuviško tautiškumo aptarimas studijoje galėtų būti nuodugnesnis ir labiau niuansuotas. Penkta, nepaisant išsakytų pastabų, P. ENDevelopment and institutionalization of informal trade and small commercial activities are among the most prominent changes, going on in the Eastern Europe, to which the monograph “A Market Out of Place?”, written by Danish scholar Pernille Hohnen is dedicated. This is the first ethnographical study of such character, performed in Lithuania. The author, who chose the marginalized marketplace of Gariūnai as the field for her study, examines the relations between the informal commercial activities with the reconfiguration of identities of gender and ethnicity in the post-Socialists reality. The said identities are discussed in a broader context of value of labour and morality. The review presents the advantages of the performed study and provides critical remarks. First, the researcher states that she has revealed the new ways of conceptualization of goods, money and commercial trade, however this newness is to a certain extent exaggerated; the combinations of the Soviet past and post-Soviet present at Gariūnai marketplace and the surrounding community could have been discussed more thoroughly. Secondly, the study especially thoroughly and persuasively describes the sellers at Gariūnai, however one is surprised how little attention is dedicated to the buyers. Thirdly, chapters three and four discuss the ways the sellers acquire, trade, sell or conceal the knowledge, necessary to have in order to be able to engage in commercial activities at Gariūnai, which, in the opinion of the reviewer, is the most valuable information in the book both in the ethnographic and theoretic aspects. Fourth, the discussion of Lithuanian nationality could have been more thorough and nuanced. Fifth, despite the remarks, P. Hohnen’s study is an important and welcomed contribution into the anthropological studies of Lithuania and the Baltic states.
