Summary / Abstract:

LTPostmodernistinės mokymo(si) paradigmos kontekste, siekiant suvokti mokymąsi kaip individualų kognityvinį procesą, o individą kaip aktyvų šio proceso subjektą, tyrėjui svarbi tampa individo įgyta ir įprasminta ugdymosi patirtis. Straipsnis analizuoja kokybinio tyrimo, grindžiamo fenomenologijos teorija, konstravimo ypatumus ir taikymo galimybes, siekiant atskleisti suaugusiųjų profesinės anglų kalbos mokymosi patirtis. Tokia tyrimo strategija, paremta interviu metodu ir duomenų kontentine analize, sudarė sąlygas gauti reikšmingos informacijos apie reiškinį per tyrėjo ir tyrimo dalyvių bendravimą, pateikė duomenų, leidžiančių atskleisti asmeninės patirties turinį bei konteksto ypatumus; individualios ugdymosi patirties teksto duomenų kategorizavimas identifikavo individualių patirčių unikalumo ir situacijų universalumo sąsajas. Tyrimo duomenų kontentinė analizė ir interpretavimas leido išskirti reikšmingus inžinerijos anglų kalbos, kaip profesijos reikmėms būtinos užsienio kalbos, kalbinių gebėjimų raiškos turinį, jų ugdymo(si) svarbą, tikslus ir reikšmingus šiam edukaciniam procesui veiksnius bei prielaidas. ENArticle analyses the specificity of design and application opportunities of a qualitative research based on the phenomenological theory in order to examine adult experiences of learning English for specific purposes. The qualitative research is based on the phenomenological theory. The research is based on the phenomenological logic that enables the researcher to get information about personal individual experiences through a direct dialogue with the research participants, to reveal individual elements of the learning process, and to identify contexts of individually experienced phenomena. Text analysis by recording individual experiences allows the researcher to demonstrate the variety of characteristics of the phenomenon of self-education and to see the unity of attributes. The research data was received by employing the method of an interview, the outcomes were analysed by content analysis. A semi-structured interview was used. It allowed the research participants to express their experiences without any restrictions, to reflect upon these experiences and evaluate them during the conversation. The researcher aimed at hearing individual, different, various and not generalised or universal experiences. An interview is a conversation between the researcher and research participant, during which the researcher is an attentive listener, encouraging the interlocutor to look closely and critically at their experiences. This way the dialogic character of thinking manifests itself. In order for the interview to be more purposeful, a semi-structured interview with a list of directing questions was chosen. This allowed having a closer look at the individual's experiences. In order to ensure the quality and efficiency of the interview, for it to provide versatile information for the researcher, the latter had to be able to conduct a sincere conversation with the research subject and to create the atmosphere of mutual trust. Besides, it is necessary to allow the research subject to feel that his/her experiences are unique and valuable not only for him but also for the researcher. The process of the interview was conducted in stages: the preparation stage, when interview guidelines were prepared and participant selection criteria were set; the interview stage, based on the principles of anonymity, voluntaiy participation and interview ethics; the research data analysis and interpretation stage, consisting of transcribing the interview materials, distinguishing categories and subcategories and structuring. The transcribed thoughts were analysed by applying categorisation. The texts of every speaker were divided into meaningful units – subcategories, the variety of meanings of which emphasise the individuality and differences in the learning experiences. These small and individual subcategories were joined into larger groups of subcategories according to the nature of experiences and activity outcomes. These groups were subsequently joined into categories. This way a hierarchical structure of meanings was created which reflected the content of the environment of application of the English language skills for specific purposes and the uniqueness of the participants' learning experiences.
