ENThe materials presented in the survey indicate that in the Lithuanian and foreign scientific literature published in 1990-1997 the international relations are studied in close interaction with the processes of Lithuanian statehood of the first half of the 20th c. The attention is focussed on the solution of territorial problems in international institutions, international recognition of the state, issues of impact of international relations for Lithuania’s secunty. The new historiography stresses the research of international regulation of Lithuanian-Polish relations, the authors of which emphasize the negative impact of the territorial conflict of the countries and the seizure of Vilnius on the international situation of Lithuania, the inability of the League of Nations to resolve the conflict. In scientific literature a special study is made of Lithuania’s relations with the Soviet Union, the USA of these countries' political interests in the Baltic region. Lithuanian-German relations are specifically dealt in the works of Lithuanian and foreign authors published in Germany, in which a special-significance in attached to the legal and political problems of Klaipeda’s status in the interwar period, an analysis of the positions and interests of European countries in this region is made. The impact of the politics of the major powers and international institutions on the international situation of Lithuania in the interwar period is given a partial treatment in the works of foreign authors devoted to the political history of the Baltic region or Baltic countries in which a survey of the international conditions and effects of the eastern and western political interaction is made The 1990-1997 historiography does not yet make a sufficient analysis of the interaction of political, economic interests and relations in the Baltic region, their effect on Lithuania.
