Summary / Abstract:

ENThe main aim of the current study was to examine the relation between child attachment security and various dimensions of child temperament. In a sample of fifty-four 17-19-month-old infants, attachment security was assessed with the Attachment Q-Set Version 3 (AQS; Waters, 1995). Home visitor observed infant attachment behaviour at home. Toddler Behaviour Assessment Questionnaire (TBAQ; Goldsmith, 1994) was used to characterize the children in terms of five dimensions of temperament: Activity Level, Pleasure, Social Fearfulness, Anger Proneness, and Interest / Persistence. The mothers completed TBAQ questionnaire. Results of this study show that AQS security significantly correlates with four temperamental characteristics. The strongest negative relation was found between AQS security and infant anger proneness. Negative relation between AQS security scores and social fearfulness was found. Results show that AQS security is positively related to infant pleasure and interest / persistence. Statistically significant differences between secure and insecure children were found in Anger Proneness, Pleasure and Social Fearfulness scales. Relation between child's activity level and AQS security was not found.
