Senasis baltų tikėjimas
LTBaltų (latvių, lietuvių ir prūsų) senosios mitologijos ir religijos tyrinėjimai turi netrumpą istoriją. Akivaizdi yra jų reikšmė indoeuropeistikai. Tačiau religijotyros studijose iki šiol mažai dėmesio buvo skiriama struktūriniams klausimams, apsiribojant atskirų dievybių įvaizdžių, jų funkcijų, vardų kilmės ir t.t. nagrinėjimu. Šio straipsnio tikslas dvejopas. Pirmiausia siekiama į baltų mitologiją ir religiją pažvelgti semantiškai: apibrėžti esmingiausias dievybių funkcijas ir išryškinti jų tarpusavio sąsajas, formuojančias hierarchinę panteono struktūrą. Antra, tikimasi, kad struktūros išryškinimas padės susidaryti visuminį vaizdą. Deja, baltų mitologijos ir religijos šaltinių pobūdis yra labai fragmentiškas, - nežinome mitinių būtybių gentinės priklausomybės, chronotopo. Tai riboja tyrimo gylį; daugelį išvadų šiandien galima pateikti tik hipotezių pavidalu. Šaltinių žiniose galima įžvelgti neabejotinus struktūros požymius, atitinkančius tris lygmenis. Pirmasis – kosminis; jį sudaro aukščiausiųjų dievų triada, išreiškianti pasaulio radimosi ir jo dinamikos priežastis. Antrasis ir tretysis – žemesniųjų dievybių, lemiančių konkretaus žmogaus likimą bei lydinčių metinių žemės ūkio darbų ciklą. Baltiškojo panteono hierarchija apskritai yra sąlygota sociumo struktūros bei jo gyvensenos prioritetų. Straipsnis yra proginis, aprašantis ir Mokslų akademijos bibliotekoje surengtą baltiškosios mitologijos ir religijos literatūros parodą, kurią papuošė keramikės Genovaitės Jacėnaitės šios tematikos kūriniai. ENResearch of the ancient mythology and religion of the Balts (Latvians, Lithuanians and Old Prussians) have an extensive history. Their role for the Indoeuropeistics is obvious. But up to this day, the religion research studies have provided little attention for structural issues, and were limited mostly with the analysis of different deity images, their functions, origins of names, etc. The purpose of this article is twofold. On one hand, it has a purpose of applying a semantic attitude to the Baltic mythology and religion: by defining the most substantial functions of deities and emphasising their mutual links forming the hierarchal structure of pantheon. On the other hand, we hope that the emphasis on structure will provide a generalised view. Unfortunately, the nature of the ancient mythology and religion of the Balts is highly fragmented: we have little information about tribal dependence, and chronotope of mythical creatures. This restricts the depth of research; many conclusions today can be presented only as hypotheses. In the information from sources we can distinct unmistakable features of structure, comprising three levels. The first is cosmic; it consists of the triad of supreme gods manifesting the reasons of the world nascence and its dynamics. The second and the third include the lower deities determining the fate of a specific individual, and the accompanying cycle of annual agricultural works. The article was written for the literature exhibition of the Baltic mythology and religion organised in the Library of the Academy of Sciences, and decorated with ceramic artworks by Genovaitė Jacėnaitė.
