Kas yra kas Alfonso Eidinto knygoje "Antanas Smetona ir jo aplinkai"

LTRecenzijoje aptariama Alfonso Eidinto knyga „Antanas Smetona ir jo aplinka“ (Vilnius, 2012). Moksliniu turiniu ir istorinėmis įžvalgomis, analize ši knyga apie A. Smetoną yra gerokai toliau pažengusi, palyginti su 1990 metais autoriaus paskubomis išleistąja. Čia A. Eidintas drąsiai polemizuoja su kitais A. Smetonos biografijų autoriais A. Merkeliu ir L. Truska. Dažnai nesutikdamas su pastarųjų nuomone, jis pateikia savų įžvalgų, įvykių interpretacijų. Knyga įtraukia skaitytoją, nes autorius sumaniai dėliodamas citatas sukonstruoja gyvą ir spalvingą Prezidento gyvenimo paveikslą. Pateikiama daug įdomios medžiagos apie A. Smetonos šeimą, privatų gyvenimą, pomėgius, charakterį, dienotvarkės ypatumus. Autoriui pavyko rasti aukso vidurį, todėl greta Prezidento bendražygių ir atsidavusių draugų gana gerai išryškinti ir su juo konfliktavę, jo nemėgę, varžęsi dėl valdžios veikėjai. A. Eidintui knygoje pavyko atskleisti A. Smetonos ir jo aplinkos paveikslą, išryškinti pirmosios Lietuvos Respublikos esminius įvykius. Ne A. Smetonos valdymo ar valdžios trūkumai nulėmė Lietuvos nepriklausomybės sunaikinimą, o Stalino ir Hitlerio sąmokslas ir sovietinė okupacija. Nepaisant nenoro dalytis valdžia ir kai kurių lemtingų klaidų, A. Smetona yra neabejotinai ryškiausia XX a. I pusės Lietuvos istorijos asmenybė, lėmusi Lietuvos tautinę, ekonominę ir valstybinę raidą.

ENThe review discusses Alfonsas Eidintas’ book “Antanas Smetona ir jo aplinka” [Antanas Smetonas and His Environment] Vilnius, 2012). With its scientific content and historical insights and analysis, this book about A. Smetona advanced much further if compared to the book the author hastily published in 1990. In this book, A. Edintas debates with other authors of S. Smetona’s biographies, i.e. A. Merkelis and L. Truska. He objects to the opinions of these authors and presents his own insights and interpretations of events. The book engages the reader, since the author, through his smart use of quotes, constructs a lively and colourful picture of the President’s life. Vast interesting material about A. Smetona’s family, private life, hobbies, character and agenda peculiarities is presented. The author managed to find a balance, therefore, persons conflicting with the President and disliking him are also presented along with his followers and devoted friends. In his book, A. A. Edintas managed to reveal the picture of A. Smetona and his environment and to highlight the key events of the first Republic of Lithuania. The destruction of the independence of Lithuania was not determined by shortages in A. Smetona’s governance, but by Stalin and Hitler’s conspiracy and the Soviet occupation. Notwithstanding his unwillingness to share power and certain fatal mistakes, A. Smetona is, without doubt, the most prominent personality in the history of Lithuania of the first half of the 20th c., who determined Lithuania’s national, economic and state development.
