LTStraipsnyje peržvelgiamas Vienuolio „Paskenduolės“ skaitymo procesas, siekiant pasiaiškinti, kur glūdi prasminės meninės struktūros potencijos. Gvildenama šio kūrinio poetikos istoriškumo problema. Ankstyvajame Vienuolio kūrybos etape (iki 1917 m.) pinasi romantinė ir realistinė tendencijos. Tad mėginama kūrinio meninėje struktūroje apčiuopti šių meninių sistemų pėdsakų. Konkretūs kultūros konteksto sluoksniai teikia medžiagos pokalbiui apie žanrinės formos bei ja pasakojamų įvykių istoriją. Skrupulinga analize galima įrodyti, kad tekstas yra didesnis ar mažesnis formalių bei tematinių citatų vėrinys. Veronika meta iššūkį iki šiol ją gąsdinusiems šešėliams, savajai baimei – o tai romantinio tipo herojaus patosas. Norėdamas išsamiau parodyti vidinį Veronikos pasaulį, Vienuolis palieka nuošalėje kai kurias sentimentalistinio siužeto peripetijas. Veronika pasirodo esanti prieštaringa asmenybė. Jos charakterio savybės yra gana nuosekliai psichologiškai motyvuojamos, gimsta pilnakraujis charakteris – o tai yra realistinės literatūros bruožas. Kokios aplinkybės paskatino Vienuolį sukurti tokį išsiskiriantį Veronikos paveikslą? Tokius personažus patikimiau interpretuoti remiantis kūriniu, nes jie logiškai ar psichologiškai reaguoja tik į kūrinyje formuluojamus konfliktus. Kiekvienas naujas „Paskenduolės“ perskaitymas yra žvelgimas į kūrinį skaitytojui aktualių problemų rakursu, tačiau korektiškas interpretatorius neturėtų pasitenkinti keliomis jo versiją iliustruojančiomis citatomis, būtina atskleisti visą kūrinį apimančią prasmės logiką.

ENIn order to find out the potentials of notional artistic structure, this article focuses on the process of reading of Vienuolis story Paskenduolė. It also includes examination of the issue on poetic history of this work. In the early stage of Vienuolis writing (up to 1917) his works include romantic and realistic tendencies. The aim is to find traces of these artistic systems in the artistic structure of the story. Particular layers of cultural context provide the material for the conversation on story of form of the genre and events told using this form. Scrupulous analysis helps to prove that more or less the text is like a necklace made of formal and thematic quotations. Veronika challenges shadows, which were scaring her before, and her fears, which represent the pathos of romantic character. In order to show a more detailed inner world of Veronika, Vienuolis leaves some of the sentimental peripeteias of the plot behind. It seems that Veronika is a controversial figure. Features of her character are quite consistently motivated in a psychological manner, creating a full-blooded character, which indicates realistic literature. What circumstances motivated Vienuolis to form such a different portrait of Veronika? It is more accurate to interpret such characters basing on the work because they logically or psychologically react only to conflicts formulated in the work. After each new reading of Paskenduolė the approach of a reader towards this story changes according to the problems relevant to him/her; however, a correct interpreter should not settle for a couple quotations illustrating his/her version because it is necessary to reveal the logic of essence involving the whole work.
