Foreign language teaching in the framework of social changes

LTStraipsnyje aptariama užsienio kalbų dėstymo istorija Europoje platesniame socialinių procesų ir pokyčių kontekste. Daugiausia remiamasi anglų kaip užsienio kalbos dėstymo istorijos faktais. Užsienio kalbos dėstymo tendencijos konkrečioje šalyje konkrečiu istoriniu laikotarpiu, kalbų mokymo ir mokymosi tikslai ir prioritetai susiję su įvairiais socialiniais ir ekonominiais veiksniais ir formuojasi jų įtakoje. Kadangi anglų kalba po 1990 metų, po Lietuvos nepriklausomybės atkūrimo, tapo dominuojančia užsienio kalba šalyje, straipsnyje trumpai apžvelgiama anglų kalbos dėstymo istorija mūsų šalyje, o taip pat socialinės sąlygos, kurios lėmė šios kalbos atsiradimą mokyklų programose šio amžiaus pradžioje.

ENThe article deals with the history of teaching foreign languages in a broader framework of social and educational changes in Europe, with a special emphasis on English and England. The role of foreign language teaching in a particular society at a particular time, the goals and priorities in learning and teaching a foreign language, as well as the choice of appropriate methodologies, depend on and are determined by a number of social, economic, intellectual and educational factors. As after 1990 due to a number of social changes English became a foreign language of primary importance in Lithuania, the history and the reasons of the introduction of English into the curricula of schools in Lithuania at the beginning of the century are shortly reviewed.
