Summary / Abstract:

ENThe Division of Applied Art of the Lithuanian Art Museum contains archaeological exhibits the initial circumstances of acquiring of which are unclear or not too clear. Since the collection consists of archaeological findings its value depends not only the things themselves among which there are valuable ones indeed. The value of prehistoric things is mostly determined by the whole of circumstances under which they were found or at least a monument or the location. The monument reveals the cultural environment of a thing and the context of its creation, a separate archaeological finding is especially difficult to interpret, most often one manages to determine its cultural belonging only approximately. Hence, the article is an attempt, on the basis of the surviving and accessible material, to establish the location, chronology, cultural belonging, and circumstances of discovering, at the same time belonging to the collections of different museums or collections of private persons of the collection under discussion.
