ENThe early Savickis' expressionist novellas, especially those included in the collection Holliday Sonnets, are analysed in this article. Space and time in the stories are constructed by ellipses; sound and light isotophies keep up the continuousness of their meaning. The novellas endings can be defined as a specific pause, after which certain conclusions follow. Love and death are basic themes. The endings are elliptically added as refrains, explaining why the compositional principle of the novellas can be attributed to the form of a sonnet. The coexistence of passing worlds, which are seen in the light of irony, uncovers the dimension of eternity in these stories.
