Juditos Vaičiūnaitės poezijos rinktinė anglų kalba: ar perteiktas tylus devyniabalsis giedojimas?
LTStraipsnyje aptariama vienintelė Juditos Vaičiūnaitės poezijos rinktinė anglų kalba „Fire Put Out by Fire“, jos parengimo medžiaga ir leidybos istorija. Lyginant vertimus gilintasi ir į plačiau netyrinėtą Vaičiūnaitės kūrybos tarptautinės sklaidos sritį – apžvelgtos visos Vaičiūnaitės poezijos rinktinės ir stambesnės publikacijos kitomis kalbomis, įvairių vertėjų eilėraščių interpretacijos anglų kalba. Kadangi vertimas yra ir kultūros reprezentacijos aktas, antologijų ir rinktinių, kuriose skelbta poetės kūryba, pratarmėse ir įvaduose stebėtas bendras lietuvių poezijos lauko kismas ir tai, kokia pozicija literatūros procese buvo skiriama Vaičiūnaitei, ilgiau stabtelint ties aktualiais sovietmečio laikotarpiui poezijos kaip kultūros tęstinumo ir politinio priešinimosi aspektais. ENIn this article the author discusses the publishing history of Fire Put Out by Fire, the only English-language edition of Judita Vaičiūnaitė’s poetry, which was published in the United States in 1996. For her analysis of the translations and her reconstructions of the stories behind the poems, the author draws on material from the Vaičiūnaitė archives, and compares the work of the translators (professor Viktorija Skrupskelytė and professor and poet Stuart Friebert) to other translations of Vaičiūnaitė’s poetry into English. The article is also concerned with the question of the international circulation of Vaičiūnaitė’s oeuvre (a topic which has not received wide attention) and discusses all the major collections and more important publications of the poet’s work in other languages. Because translation is an act of cultural representation, the forewords and introductions to the anthologies and collections in which Vaičiūnaitė’s work has appeared are also worthy of attention, because they reveal shifts in the ways that Lithuanian literature was presented to readers in other languages, and in Vaičiūnaitė’s position within literary processes in different periods. The relevance of poetry as a form of cultural continuity and political resistance, which is stressed by the authors of these introductions and forewords, raises the question of the degree to which Vaičiūnaitė’s work can be considered political writing stricto sensu. In the author’s opinion, this question is still up for discussion. Viktorija Skrupskelytė, who wrote the introduction to the 1996 collection, interpreted Vaičiūnaitė’s non-declarative politics as a phenomenon reflective of the broader cultural context – of a generation’s resistance to the system and censorship.
