Summary / Abstract:

ENWhen the German army left Lithuania in autumn of 1944 was restored Institute of Arts with the Graphic Art’s Department. The chief of Department was graphic artist M. Bulaka, taught as pedagogues V. Jurkūnas, J. Kuzminskis, V. Drėma etc. From the beginning school was reconstructed on the soviet backgrounds — the chieves and teachers were sent to work on probation to Russian art schools, and to Vilnius came a detachment of Russians, Party officials demobilized from the front who held the main posts in administration staff of the Institute. A lot of students were excluded and exiled, were taken repressive actions against the wellknown pedagogues and artists: V. Sezemanas, L. Karsavinas, M. Bulaka, V. Drėma etc. some of them were dismissed from work. A big part of theoretical lectures were instructed in Russian language. The Graphic Art’s Department as a part of Institute lived through the same experiences: the programmes of teaching were revised according to the programmes of Leningrad and Moscow schools. After M. Bulaka’s dismissing, the head of Department was assoc, prof. J. Kuzminskis. In Russian programmes a lot of hours were delivered to the subjects of speciality but in life the main part of them were changed to the ideological theoretical subjects. According to the socialist realism’s dogmata students were taught drawing and painting. But the teachers of Department tried to teach students of Graphic art’s backgrounds, to train the skills of profession. A lot of attention was devoted to the science research and creative work. The cycles of graphic art created in that period, the research works are valued till nowadays. In hard post-war period political and economical conditions, by regular repressions and ideological stresses the Institute and Department has been restored and did the useful work for the Lithuanian culture. At that time studied and graduated from the Institute and Department several well known Lithuanian graphic artists of nowadays, on constructed base of that time was built the Lithuanian contemporary graphic art.
