Postmodernizmas kaip konjunktūra

LTStraipsnyje nesiekiama pateikti išsamios ar sisteminės postmodernizmo teorijų apžvalgos ar aptarti šiuolaikinės lietuvių literatūros, taikant Vakaruose nusistovėjusius postmodernizmo kriterijus. Šio fragmentiško ir neišsamaus tyrimo tikslai yra keli. Pirma, aptarti keletą probleminių postmodernizmo teorijos vietų, akivaizdžiai prieštaraujančių arba postmoderniais laikomų kūrinių struktūroms, arba suprobleminamų tų kūrinių istorinio ir socialinio funkcionavimo. Antra, šis klausimas keliamas ir atsižvelgiant į postmodernizmo sąvokos (ir reiškinio, kiek apie jį galima kalbėti) funkcionavimą Lietuvoje, kuris daugeliu atvejų susijęs su nekritišku sąvokos perėmimu, visiškai neatsižvelgiant į gana specifinę posovietinės šalies situaciją. Trečia, apibrėžti paties postmodernizmo konjunktūrinį (kartais ir „korupcinis”) statusą – jis visada atsiranda reiškiniui kultūroje ir visuomenėje užėmus dominuojančią poziciją. Postmodernizmas yra svarbi literatūrinės minties kategorija, tačiau šis teigimas nepanaikina daugybės ne tokių esminių (palyginti su I. Hassano iškeltuoju) klausimų: 1. Periodizacijos problema. Ar įmanoma literatūrinį postmodernizmą laikyti epocha, tokia kaip klasicizmas, romantizmas, pagaliau modernizmas? Jeigu taip, kada ji prasideda? 2. Ar įmanoma apibūdinti literatūrinį postmodernizmą kaip stilių? 3. Ar postmodernizmui numarinus autorių, dar galima kalbėti apie autorinį stilių? 4. Ar postmodernizmas tikrai „pribaigė“ haratyvą (tiksliau, linijinę jo raišką, kuriai būdingas ryškus siužeto ir fabulos sutapimas), pradėtą ardyti jau modernizmo? ENIt is not aimed in the article to present an exhaustive or systematic review of postmodernism theories or to discuss modern Lithuanian literature, applying postmodernism criteria well-established in the West. There are a few purposes of this fragment and sketchy analysis. First, to discuss a few problem points of postmodernism theory, which apparently contradict either the structures of works that are considered to be postmodern or historical and social functioning of those works. Second, this question is also raised in view of functioning of a postmodernism term (and phenomenon, as much as it can be referred to) in Lithuania, which is in most cases related to uncritical adoption of the concept absolutely disregarding a rather specific situation of post-Soviet state. Third, to define a conjunctive (sometimes also “corrupt”) status of postmodernism – it always takes place when a phenomenon takes up a dominating position in culture and society. Postmodernism is a substantial category of literary idea, however, such allegation doesn’t call off the number of questions, which are not considered to be that essential (as compared to the one raised by I. Hassan): 1. A problem of periodization. Can literary postmodernism be regarded as an era, such as classicism, romanticism, eventually modernism? If yes, when does it start? 2. Can literary postmodernism be defined as a style? 3. Can we still talk about the author’s style, when postmodernism has mortified the author? 4. Has postmodernism really “finished off” the narration (to be precise, its linear expression, to which a distinct concurrence of plot and story is incidental), which has started to be destroyed by modernism? There is no point in denying that postmodernism in the theory and practice of literature was and still is the inevitability, provoked by both changed world and changed perception of the world.
