Rinkinys iš esmės sudarytas iš pranešimų, perskaitytų konferencijoje „Lietuvos Didžioji Kunigaikštystė ir rytinės Lenkijos Karalystės sritys kaip kultūrinės komunikacijos regionas (XV–XVIII amžiais)“, vykusios Passau 2005 metų kovo mėnesį. Mokslinio dialogo, kurio rezultatas yra recenzuoto rinkinio publikacija, tikslas buvo išanalizuoti etninių ir religinių kontaktų specifiką tokiame ypatingai nevienalyčiame regione, koks buvo Lietuvos Didžioji Kunigaikštystė, o po 1569 metų unijos su Lenkija – Abiejų Tautų Respublika. Knygą sudaro įvadinė redakcijos dalis ir trys teminiai skyriai: „Bajorai ir miestiečiai“, „Bažnyčia ir dvasininkai“ ir „Kultas, giedojimas ir dailė“. Rinkinio medžiaga nėra moksliškai lygiavertė: ne visiems mokslininkams pavyko naujai pažvelgti į savo medžiagą ir išsiveržti iš tradicinių, dažnai tendencingų, schemų, taip pat kaip ir pagrįsti savo drąsias prielaidas šaltinių medžiaga. Vis dėlto ir esama forma rinkinio medžiaga yra vertingas indėlis į Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės istorijos tyrinėjimus.

ENThe article is a review of the studio „Lithuania and Ruthenia . Studies of a Transcultural Communication Zone (15th–18th Centuries). ISSN: 0067–5903; ISBN: 978-3-447-05605-2.“ The collection basically consists of reports that had been read in the conference "The Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the eastern areas of the Kingdom of Poland as cultural communication region (15th–18th Centuries), held in Passau in March 2005. The aim of Scientific dialogue, the result of which is the publication of peer-reviewed collection, was to analyze the specificity of ethnic and religious contacts in such extremely inhomogeneous region as the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and after 1569, the union with Poland – the Republic of Two Nations. The book consists of an introductory part of the editorial and three thematic sections: "Noblemen and Townspeople, Church and Clergy and The Cult, Chanting and Art." Material of the collection is not scientifically equivalent: not all researchers were able to take a fresh look at their own material and break out of the traditional, often tendentious schemes, as well as to ground their courageous preconditions on source material. Nevertheless material of the collection of such form is a valuable contribution to the historical research of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
