Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Apsakymai; Folklorinė tradicija; Juozas Aputis; Lietuvių proza; Mitas; Mitopoetika; Novelės; Folklore tradition; Juozas Aputis; Lithuanian Prose; Myth; Poetics of Myth; Short Stories.

ENThe study is based on the semiotic analysis of text perception and attempts to reveal aspects of mythic in Juozas Aputis‘ novels. It is noted that J. Aputis‘ novels appear as a creative discharge of critical moment. The „transition“ symbolism, which is typical to myth, shows that authentic situation is in and outside the text. At the moment of tension the world freezes and turns into timeless world of the myth with its characteristics of discontinuity of space and time. The study observes clear projection of the novels to the past, to childhood as their sacred starting point – it is like an attempt to find resistance in the present, to give a sense to own existence, give it value and meaning, gain power for the new flights. By modeling the story in this way, mythical idea of the “eternal return“ and the creative act itself is validated as a certain ritual, which lifts authentic experience up to certain universals. Time perspectives are altered in the novels in order to comprehend the meaning of time flow. However, the author also claims that the “eternal return” idea in J. Aputis’ novels does not reject the present process, does not try to get rid of it – in this way the conception of history, more specifically the nation’s history is complemented. The model of being, which is based on the mythical oppositions of values, is associated with the acting subject’s ambivalence of inner entity. It is concluded that in J. Aputis’ novels mythology is not open and there almost are no specific mythological images. The relation to the myth is more intuitive, immediate as the discharge of creator’s consciousness, as the continuation of still pulsating ethic tradition.
