Pros and cons of ESP

LTŠiame straipsnyje aptariamas Lietuvos aukštųjų mokyklų studijų programose esamas dalykinės ir bendrosios anglų kalbos santykis. Straipsnyje panaudoti dviejų Lietuvos Švietimo ir mokslo ministerijos ir Britų Tarybos organizuotų projektų „ESPELL“ ir „ELT Survey in Lithuania“ metu gauti duomenys. Tyrimams buvo taikomos šios priemonės: „Klausimynas studentų kalbiniams poreikiams nustatyti“, „Interviu su aukštųjų mokyklų administratoriais“, „Klausimynas aukštųjų mokyklų anglų kalbos dėstytojams“, „Tikslinių studentų grupių apklausa“. Straipsnyje nagrinėjami trys požiūriai, — dėstytojų, dudentų bei administracijos, — į dalykinės anglų kalbos svarbą. Išanalizavus gautus duomenis galima teigti, kad studentų prioritetai dalykinei anglų kalbai auga ir kinta kartu su išsamesniu savo specialybės dalyko pažinimu. ENThe article discusses the relation between the business and the common English language, existing in the educational programmes of Lithuanian higher educational institutions. The article uses the data, acquired during the two projects, arranged by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania and the British Council, i. e. “ESPELL“ and “ELT Survey in Lithuania“. The following measures were employed for the studies: “The questionnaire for identification of the linguistic needs of the students“, “The interviews with administrators of higher educational institutions”, “The questionnaire for the English language teachers at higher educational institutions“ and “The survey of target groups of students“. The article examines the view of the importance of the business English language, taken by the teachers, students and the administration. Upon analyzing the obtained data, one can state that the students’ priorities to the business English language have been growing and changing together with the more comprehensive cognition of the subject of the specialty.
