Giedrė Jankevičiūtė. Dailė ir valstybė: dailės gyvenimas Lietuvos Respublikoje 1918-1940

LTPublikacijoje recenzuojama Giedrės Jankevičiūtės knyga „Dailė ir valstybė: dailės gyvenimas Lietuvos Respublikoje 1918-1940“. Autoriaus nuomone, G. Jankevičiūtė pabandė išsiaiškinti dailės ir valstybės santykius, tačiau palaipsniui jos žvilgsnis nukrypo į dailės gyvenimą tarpukario Lietuvoje: į dailės gyvenimo organizavimą ir oficialųjį stilių, į muziejus ir jų kolekcijas, dailės švietimą ir amatų ugdymą, bažnytinės dailės atnaujinimo sąjūdį. Tačiau šis siekis aprėpti visas sritis, kuriose reiškėsi ar prisilytėjo dailės pasaulio atstovai, recenzento teigimu, kartkartėmis autorei „pakiša koją“, nesąmoningai pastūmėdamas pervertinti dailininkų vaidmenį vienoje ar kitoje srityje. Pasak autoriaus, nereiktų pervertinti dailininkų ar kitų kūrėjų vaidmens Kultūros reikalų departamento atsiradimo istorijoje – jis menkas. Priešingai, šio 1934 m. įkurto departamento veikla kaip tik atskleidė, jog beviltiškai nerangiai atrodanti valdžia gebėjo (kai to norėjo) neblogai manipuliuoti menininkų pasauliu, jiems patiems to nematant, o gal greičiau ir nenorint to matyti. Diskutuotini ir autorės teiginiai apie propagandinę dailę, galbūt, autorė nepakankamai susipažinusi su politinės mitologijos kanonais. Priekabesnis politinę istoriją tyrinėjantis istorikas rastų ir daugiau diskutuotinų teiginių. Vis dėlto G. Jankevičiūtės knyga, nepretenduodama į tiesos monopolį, provokuoja diskusiją, knygoje slypi galia sudominti dailės pasauliu net tolimus nuo jo žmones.

ENIn this publication a review of the book by Giedre Jankeviciute “Dailė ir valstybė: dailės gyvenimas Lietuvos Respublikoje 1918-1940” [The Art and the State: the Life of Art in the Republic of Lithuania in 1918-1940] is presented. The reviewer claims that G. Jankeviciute tried to reveal the relationship between the art and the state but was gradually absorbed by the life of art in the inter-war Lithuania: the organisation of the life of art and its official style, the museums and their collections, art and craft education, the movement for renewal of ecclesiastical art. In the opinion of the reviewer, this striving to cover all areas of expression of the artists of that time didn’t serve well since the author tended to overestimate roles of some artists in one area or another. The reviewer believes that such overestimation should be avoided since the role of artists in the emergence of the Department of Cultural Affairs was negligible. Quite the contrary, the activities of this department which was established in 1934 revealed that even if authorities looked hopelessly awkward at that time, they were able, when needed, to manipulate the artistic world without artists even realizing or maybe not even willing to realize that. The statements of the author on the propaganda art are also subject to discussion; it looks like that author is not very well aware of the canons of political mythology. Any more rigorous political historian would be able to find even more subjects for critique. Nevertheless, even if this book of G.Jankeviciute cannot claim the monopoly of truth, it definitely stimulates discussion since it has the potential of drawing attention of even those who are very remotely connected to art.
