Nedingę laiko dulkėse

LTPastaraisiais metais išėjo nemažos apimties leidinių apie nepriklausomos Lietuvos ministrus pirmininkus, užsienio reikalų ministrus. Jeigu prisiminsime išsamias mūsų prezidentų gyvenimo ir veiklos studijas, tai bus aišku, jog šiame kontekste negali likti nepastebėta neseniai pasirodžiusi V.Jankausko knyga, skirta nepriklausomos Lietuvos generalitetui, kurio istorija, kaip pažymi autorius, kol kas tebėra neparašyta. Autorius iškėlė sau sudėtingą uždavinį – į vieną knygą sutalpinti trisdešimties generolų biografijas. Rašant apie pagarsėjusias asmenybes, susitelkiama ties vienu ar keletu reikšmingesnių gyvenimo įvykių, o apie mažiau žinomus generolus pateikiama veik visa turima medžiaga. Tokia faktografija turi savų pliusų ir minusų. Viena, nubraukiamos užmaršties dulkės nuo visų generolų antpečių. Skaitytojas gali ieškoti ir ras biografinių apybraižų pagal savo interesus. Antra vertus, autorius iš esmės nenagrinėja, o ir norėdamas negalėtų nagrinėti platesnio klausimų rato, kur būtų giliau analizuojami Lietuvos kariuomenėje vykę procesai, ano meto karybos problemos: karinių doktrinų raida, jų taikymas, kariuomenės modernizavimas ir t.t. Neretai sunku susidaryti įspūdį, ko buvo vertas vienas ar kitas generolas kaip kariškis. Todėl galima manyti, kad karybos istorikams darbo dar ilgai netruks... Knygoje nėra nei nuorodų, nei literatūros sąrašo. Galbūt tai neprivalu tokio pobūdžio darbams, tačiau ši aplinkybė kenkia dokumentiškumui ir atskirais atvejais neleidžia padiskutuoti su leidinio autoriumi, kadangi neaišku, kokiu šaltiniu jis remiasi. Laukiame antrojo knygos tomo.

ENVast publications on the prime ministers and ministers of foreign affairs of the independent Lithuania have been published recently. If we remember extensive studies of our presidents' lives and activities, it will become clear that within this context, one cannot ignore a recently published book by V. Jankauskas dedicated to the generals of the independent Lithuania, whose history, as the author notes, has not been written yet. The author has set a very difficult objective, i.e. to encompass biographies of 30 generals in one book. When discussing well known personalities, the author focuses on one or another most prominent events in the life of a given general, but when writing about less known personalities, the book presents almost all the available material. Such a factography has its pluses and minuses. First of all, all the forgotten generals are again brought to the light. The reader can search for and will find biographic outlines according to his interests. On the other hand, the author does not essentially analyse, and could not analyse even if he wished to, a wider range of issues going deeper into processes in the armed forces of Lithuania, the then military problems, development of military doctrines, modernisation of the army, etc. Usually, it is difficult to estimate the merits of one or another general as a military man. Therefore, it can be presumed that military historians have a lot of work to do. The book does not contain any references or a bibliography. It may not be obligatory for such works, however, this aspect harms the documentary character of the book and, in certain cases, excludes all the discussions with the author since his sources of information are not clear. Let us wait for the second volume of the book.
