LTRecenzijoje aptariama Barbaros Christophe knyga „Staat versus Indentität: zur Konstruktion von 'Nation' und 'nationalen Interesse' in den litauischen Transformationsdiskursen von 1987 bis 1995“. Knygos autorė bando pažvelgti į netolimos praeities įvykius per vieną aspektą: visas jos veikalas sukasi apie nacijos ir nacionalinių interesų sampratos vartojimą visuomeninėse diskusijose bei šių terminų turinio kitimą. Tai bene pirmoji knyga, kurioje įvykiai Lietuvoje ne aprašomi, bet analizuojami. Pagrindinė autorės šaltinių bazė buvo Lietuvoje leidžiama periodika. Knygoje aptariamos nacijos, nacionalizmo problemos moderniaisiais laikais, kalbama apie LKP valdžios resursus Lietuvoje, analizuojamas nacionalizmo mobilizacinis vaidmuo opozicijai buriant visuomenę į kovą prieš komunistinę sistemą, aptariami nacijos supratimo politizavimo klausimai po Lietuvos nepriklausomybės paskelbimo. Autorė, prieš pradėdama nagrinėti svarbiausią knygoje įvardytą problemą, pateikia analizuojamo laikotarpio įvykių aprašymą. Ši deskriptyvinė dalis yra neblogai integruota į visą dėstymą, nes neretai šioje dalyje pateikti faktai vėliau padeda autorei pagrįsti vieną ar kitą argumentą. Autorės dėmesio centre nacijos ir nacionalinių interesų tema išlieka visą laiką. Šia prasme knygoje yra vykusiai išanalizuota pagrindinė joje keliama problema. Išsami 1987−1995 m. laikotarpio analizė leidžia šiam darbui vykusiai konkuruoti su kitais šį laikotarpį Lietuvoje nagrinėjančiais deskriptyviniais darbais.

ENThe review discusses the book “Staat versus Indentität: zur Konstruktion von 'Nation' und 'nationalen Interesse' in den litauischen Transformationsdiskursen von 1987 bis 1995” [State Versus Identity Control: The Construction of 'Nation' and 'National Interest' in the Lithuanian Transformation Discourses in 1987–1995] by Barbara Christophe. The author of the book attempts to see the events of the recent past from one aspect: the entire book focuses on the use of the concepts of “nation” and “national interests” in public discussions as well as on the change in the content of these terms. It is almost the first book to analyse rather than describe the events in Lithuania. The major base of sources is the periodicals published in Lithuania. The book discusses the problems of nation and nationalism in modern times, talks about the resources of the Lithuanian Communist Party government in Lithuania, analyses the mobilising role of nationalism when the opposition rallied people against the Communist system, discusses the issues of politicization of the understanding of nation after the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence. Before starting to analyse the major problem identified in the book, the author presents the description of events of the analysed period. This descriptive part is well-integrated into the entire body, because the facts given in this part often help the author to subsequently ground one or another argument. The author keeps her focus on the theme of nation and national interests throughout the book. In this regard the book successfully analyses the key problem. A detailed analysis of the period 1987−1995 enables a successful competition of this work with other descriptive works focusing on this period in Lithuania.
