ENAim of present research was to reveal the peculiarities of learning motivation of sporting and non-sporting students. It has been hypothesized that students’ learning motivation is closely related to their chosen study area. The objectives of the research were to assess the criteria of learning and motivation peculiarities of sporting and non-sporting students. 215 first and second year students at three faculties (Faculty of Sports Biomedicine, Faculty of Sports Education and Faculty of Sport Technologies and Tourism) of Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education have been investigated by filling in the questionnaires in 2005. The content of questionnaire comprised 29 questions and propositions which clusters were such as students‘ motivations to learning and choosing studies field, relationships to teachers, attitude towards human individual features, individual efforts, sports activities, and social demographic variables. The research data was processed using the methods of statistical analysis: means, means of variables, standard errors, t criterion, chi square criterion.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program. Students‘ motivation to learning had statistically significant differences between sporting and nonsporting students of different faculties. The motivation of learning of non-sporting students of Biomedical faculty was higher than of sporting students of Sports Technology and Tourism faculty (4,19±0,07 and 4,01±0,04; p<0,05), but lower comparing to students of Sport Educology faculty (4,19±0,07 and 4,05±0,05; p>0,05). The data of investigation suggest the conclusion that there is an existing coherence between students’ learning motivation, as well as inter-relations with teachers, also study area and sports activity. Students with higher motivation for learning emphasize the importance of inter-relations with teachers. These students have chosen studies at the faculty of Sports Biomedicine (non-sporting students).
