ENThe aim of this paper is to prove (1) that not all noblemen of Žemaitija were denationalized in ethnocultural sense; (2) during the activities of Vilnius University and after its closing (1832) manors of ethnographical Lithuania were true centres of culture supporting financially historical researches, museums, as well as public men of Žemaitija and intellectuals descending from peasantry. The author’s thesis is based on the scientific works, archives’ data, diaries and other material.
