LTMonografijoje detaliai analizuojami etnokultūriniai procesai, vykę Nemuno aukštupyje geležies amžiuje ir ankstyvaisiais Viduramžiais (I tūkstantmetis iki mūsų eros – VIII mūsų eros amžius), materialinės kultūros raida (radiniai, gyvenvietės, kapinynai, chronologija) tų genčių, kurios dalyvavo dabartinių tautų – baltarusių, lietuvių, latvių, lenkų – etnogenezėje. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Nemuno baseinas; Štrichuotoji keramika; Archeologinė kultūra; Vakarų baltai; Rytų baltai; Entnokultūriniai procesai; Geležies amžius; Keramikos kompleksas; Laidojimo papročiai; The Nemunas basin; Striated ceramics; Archaeological culture; Western Balts; Eastern Balts; Ethnocultural processes; The Iron Age; The ceramic complex; Funeral customs.
ENThe monograph thoroughly analyses ethnocultural processes in the upper reaches of the Nemunas in the Iron Age and Early Middle Ages (1st millennium B.C. – 8th c. A.D.), the development of material culture (findings, settlements, graveyards, chronology) of those tribes which participated in the ethnogenesis of the current nations, i.e. Belarusian, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Polish. The author of the monograph investigated, interpreted and systematised thousands of data of artefacts, hundreds of towns, settlements and graveyards of the explored region. The presented material is profusely illustrated and systematised in detailed tables. Ethnogenesis of the Belarusian nation is largely related to the development of the Baltic ethnic community. When Slavs came to the upper reaches of the Nemunas in the Middle Ages, the Baltic assimilation process started. However, local residents left an indelible imprint in the material culture of immigrants. Over time it became the basis for the formation of Eastern Slavic nationality and subsequently the nation, i.e. Belarusians. The monograph uses material from the current Lithuanian and Polish territories. That was done intentionally. In order to explore ethnocultural processes that resulted in the formation of the Belarusian nationality, the past of those territories that use the Belarusian language must be examined. The area of prevalence of the Belarusian language at the beginning of the 20th c. covered a large part of Southern Lithuania and North-Eastern Poland. The monograph is oriented to archaeologists, historians and everybody who is interested in the old Belarusian history.
