EN"Vilkolakis" the first and yet unique Lithuanian theatre of satire (1919-1925). Primarily it was the club of artists, witch transformed into satirical cabaret, and from 1921 became a theatre. Director of "Vilkolakis" A. Sutkus in his article "New and old acting" (1920) had formulated the main principles of this theatre. A. Sutkus suggested to expose Lithuanian character by using Lithuanian folklore and measures of psychological theatre. So the new dramaturgy was necessary. Dramaturgy of "Vilkolakis" was not wider discussed. All plays we have only in manuscripts (except V. Bičiūnas "The Burr"). Original plays of "Vilkolakis" appealed to presumption, that Lithuanian folklore and customs have much in common with Italian commedia dell’arte, only here the characters serves as the masks. In the most interesting plays of "Vilkolakis" commedia dell’arte is transposed into Lithuanian environment. "Vilkolakis" raised many new Lithuanian comediographs: V. Bičiūnas, A. Gricius, B. Sruoga. It’s discoveries and plots were used by later playwrights.
