Summary / Abstract:

ENFacts about driving under the influence of alcohol usually are detected after motor vehicle crashes or routine drivers testing on the roads. Such data doesn't show us the real situation - how many drivers are driving under the influence of alcohol. The aim of this study was to evaluate drinking habits among Lithuanian adults, driving under the influence of alcohol. The article analyses the data of Lithuanian adult population alcohol and drug use survey, performed in 2008 by the Drug Control Department under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. The results showed, that 14,9% of 15-64 year old Lithuanian population, who consumed alcohol during the last 12 month, were driving under the influence of alcohol at least once in his/her lifetime. 5,1% - were driving under the influence of alcohol during last 12 month, 1,4% - during last 30 days. 50% of those, who were driving under the influence of alcohol at least once in his/her life - younger than 34 years. The results revealed that driving under the influence of alcohol is related to the frequency and amount of drinking. In the group of those, who are driving under the influence of alcohol, there are more people, who are using alcohol every day and are using 6 or more alcohol units every day. [From the publication]
