Experiencing Vilnius: insider and outsider perspectives
LTVilnius gali būti laikomas tarpkultūriniu miestu, kadangi vis daugiau užsienio piliečių visam ar, dažniausiai, laikinai atvyksta į šį miestą. Kolektyvinėje studijoje autoriai stengiasi pateikti apibendrinimus, kaip formuojamas Vilniaus supratimas vietinių gyventojų ir atvykėlių perspektyvoje. Studijoje išsamiai analizuojami esminiai kultūrinio identiteto gyvenant Vilniuje klausimai: kultūriniai skirtumai ir kultūrinis nesusikalbėjimas. Siekiama pateikti išsamią, tačiau lengvai suprantamą ir neapsunkintą informaciją apie Vilnių. Pristatoma Lietuvos gyventojų identiteto problema, esant tarp Vakarų ir Rytų Europos. Studijoje akcentuojamas skirtingų kultūrų ir skirtingų identitetų asmenų tarpusavio bendravimo būdas. Be to, pristatomi reikšmingiausi Lietuvoje pastarųjų metų įvykiai ir jų atgarsis visuomenėje. Studijos kūrimo metu autoriai atskleidžia, jog lietuviai, kaip ir kitos tautos atstovai, pirmiausia siekia, kad atvykę asmenys pažintų Lietuvą ir lietuvius jų pačių akimis. Lietuvių identitetas ir kultūra pasižymi tuo, jog ji nėra griežtai individuali. Pagrindiniai požiūriai yra suformuojami kolektyviai, pagal tai, kaip matomas pasaulis vienas kitų akimis. Toks pat bendravimo būdas pasireiškia ir artimesniuose santykiuose su nevietiniais gyventojais. Daroma išvada, kad daug daugiau skirtumų yra tarp dviejų individų nei tarp dviejų kultūrų. ENVilnius can be considered an intercultural city, as more and more foreign nationals permanently or, mostly, temporary come to this city. In the collective study, authors try to provide generalizations on the formation of understanding of Vilnius in the perspective of local residents and newcomers. The study provides the detailed analysis of essential issues of the cultural identity of living in Vilnius: cultural differences and cultural miscommunication. The aim is to provide comprehensive, though easily understood and not encumbered, information about Vilnius. The problem of identity of the Lithuanian population being between Western and Eastern Europe is presented. The study emphasizes the way of communication between persons of different cultures and different identities. In addition, it presents most significant Lithuanian events of recent years and their repercussion in the society. During the development of the study, authors reveal that Lithuanians, as well as representatives of other nations, first seek that arrivals get to know Lithuania and Lithuanians with their own eyes. The Lithuanian identity and culture are distinguished by not being strictly individual. Main standpoints are formed collectively by the way the world is seen by eyes of each other. The same way of communication also occurs in closer relationships with the non-local population. It is concluded that there are many more differences between two individuals than between two cultures. It is noted that the double identity prevails in Lithuania: older people who were born and lived most of the time during the Soviet regime and the youth who grew up or were born during the period of independence.
