ENThe publication deals with the continuation of the Lithuanian graphic school of the first post-war period emigration’s life (1945-1950). The notion of school is used in direct meaning as a community of means of stylistic, thematic and technique expression, which was formed in two decennia of pre-war period by the creation of Kaunas Art School, established in 1922, pupils. This community was formed by the programme of school and very important to the stylistic graphic studio orientation - the Lithuanian folk art and modern art of the 20th c. The large part of the famous Lithuanian graphic artist - Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas, Viktoras Petravičius, Paulius Augius-Augustinavičius, Vaclovas Rataiskis-Ratas and Telesforas Valius retreated to the West by the end of the World War 2. They aimed to show the Lithuanian art to the wider artistic medium of foreign countries with exhibitions and publications. The albums and books with illustrations in 1945-1949 were published abroad not only in Lithuanian language but also in many languages of West Europa. Those books and albums acquainted the people of other foreign countries with the graphic art of Lithuania.The post war period’s theme on graphic art was country life and folklore, which used modernized folk expression and decoratively treated woodcut and linocut techniques, enriched by new dramatic contents. The sights of exiles which were shown figuratively and directly, grief for conquered occupied Motherland exposured V. Petravičius and T. Valius. The motives of folk tales and songs got dramatic meaning. V. K. Jonynas was one, who joined actively to the Western cultural domains of living country, illustrated P. Merimee, J. W. Goethe’s books, which were published in French and German languages, created a series of post stamps of Germany. The most important desert of V. K. Jonynas is - establishing the higher art school in Freiburg (Freiburg im Breisgau) which had been acting in 1946-1949 period - Ecole des Arts et Metiers. This school played a great role in all emigrations’ art life - it gathered together the creators and trained the new - second generation of the Lithuanian artists in emigration on national traditions and Western art spirit.
