ENThere are actual "adaptation works" in the conservation structure of cultural heritage. In the Law on Protection of Immovable Heritage in Lithuania (2004) there are being mentioned adaptation works, although differently, in some articles of the Law. In practice the application of rules of the Law or their interpretation often provoke objections among the heritage conservators and restorers. At the same time there are presented regulations concerning adaptation works, their essence in the documents of UNESCO and ICOMOS as well as their separate estimations in England and the USA. Positive and widely discussed examples of adaptation works in Lithuania are given. The direction of adaptation works of conservation is suggested - to conserve cultural heritage in maximum, change or add something to heritage object or site in minimum, while we adapt it for present needs. The article, concerning adaptation works of cultural heritage, invites to exchange opinions, discuss and strive to consensus.
