Beatodairiška tolerancija nėra vertybė

LTStraipsnyje pasiremiant S.Huntington’o įžvalgomis apie civilizacijų susidūrimą bei imigrantų antplūdžio Jungtinėse Amerikos Valstijose pasekmes, keliamas tolerancijos ribų ir multikultūrinės Europos ateities klausimas. Straipsnio autorius mano, kad ES propaguojama tolerancijos politika gali turėti reikšmingų neigiamų socialinių ir politinių padarinių, kadangi neaišku, ar ir kaip galima suderinti įvairias kultūras ir vertybių sistemas Europoje, kurioje jau gimsta naujos imigrantų kartos. Tvirtinama, kad didėjantis musulmonų skaičius, jų nenoras asimiliuotis ir priimti Vakarų pasaulio vertybes kelia precedento neturintį pavojų Vakarų liberalizmo tradicijai. Vyksta konfrontacija fundamentaliais vertybiniais klausimais, tokiais kaip nacionalinis tapatumas ir pati liberaliosios europietiškos visuomenės prigimtis. Multikultūralizmo atstovams ir gynėjams yra užduodamas pamatinis klausimas: ar mes, europiečiai, vis dar esame Vakarų kultūros dalis, ar jau tampame kažkuo kitu?.

ENBased on S.Huntington’s insights about the clash of civilisations and the results of the immigrant rush to the United States of America, the article addresses the matter of the limits of tolerance and the future of a multicultural Europe. The author of the article believes that the tolerance policy as advertised by the EU can have significant negative social and political consequences as it is not clear whether the various cultures and systems can be approximated and how it can be done in Europe, where new generations of immigrants are being born. It is said that the growing number of Muslims, their unwillingness to assimilate and accepted the Western values creates an unprecedented threat to the Western liberalism tradition. There is a confrontation on fundamental matters of values afoot, which values include national identity and the very nature of the European liberal society. Representatives and advocates of multiculturalism are giving a core question of whether we, Europeans, are still a part of the Western culture, or if we are becoming something else.
