The expressions of urbanism appeared in the poetry of Lithuanian poets who belonged to literary movement Four winds first of all. It was the result of the experience of modern European culture and having faith in the future of inde pendent Lithuanian state. The modern age with its industrial civilisation had brought the Utopian idea of renovation and had changed the stylistics of tradit ional lyric poetry. It became declarative, challenging and aggressive. It has been overfilled with industrial and technical vocabulary, slang of the city. Urban stylistics has changed the acoustics of the poems such innovations as cacophony, disharmony appeared there. The subject of the poetry had taken the role of the precursor, genius and superman who in the polemic with alienation has been transformed into the classical role of the soul without place: Mephistopheles, wandering Jew, etc. The expressions of urbanism in Lithuanian poetry of 1918 1940 were very declarative, but it helped to legitimate the space and the culture of the city in the traditional Lithuanian poetry.
