Wenn man vom Teufel spricht
LTRecenzijoje aptariamas lenkų autorės fundamentalus darbas „Velnias lietuvių ir latvių literatūroje nuo XIX a. vidurio iki XX a. vidurio“. Pažymima, kad velnio tema literatūroje nėra nauja – minimi Dante, J. Milton, F. Goethe, M. Bulgakovas ir kiti, o šio darbo dėka atsiranda ir Kazys Boruta, Andrejs Pumpurs, nekalbant apie gausybę kitų lietuvių ir latvių autorių, kurių kūriniuose vienaip ar kitaip minimas ir reprezentuojamas velnias ir kuriuos autorė kruopščiai fiksavo ir išanalizavo savo darbe. Pabrėžiama, kad autorė, kurdama darbo kultūrinį istorinį kontekstą, pateikia latvių ir lietuvių literatūros istorijos apžvalgą, kurią baigia 19 amžiumi, pagal nutylėjimą suponuodama, kad 20 amžiaus literatūra skaitytojui yra žinoma. Recenzijoje pateikiama visų darbo skyrių apžvalga, plačiau sustojant ties velnio traktavimu lietuvių ir latvių tautosakoje, iškeliant velnio charakteristikų ypatybes ir jų skirtumus abiejų tautų folklore. Daug dėmesio recenzijoje skirama K. Borutos „Baltaragio malūno“ analizei. Pažymima, kad „Baltaragio malūnas“ tarsi iškrinta iš europinės literatūros velnio vaizdavimo tradicijos, nes jo esminės šaknys yra lietuvių folkloras.
ENThe review discusses the fundamental work of the Polish author, “Velnias lietuvių ir latvių literatūroje nuo XIX a. vidurio iki XX a. vidurio” [Devil in Lithuanian and Latvian Literature from the Mid-19th C. until the Mid-20th C.]. The topic of devil in literature is not new: Dante, J. Milton, F. Goethe, M. Bulgakov and others are mentioned. Thanks to this work, readers get to know about Kazys Boruta, Andrejs Pumpurs, and many other Lithuanian and Latvian authors whose works mention and represent devil and who were thoroughly recorded and analysed in this work. The author, while creating the cultural-historical context of the work, gives an overview of the history of Latvian and Lithuanian literature until the 19th c., presupposing that the literature of the 20th c. is known to the reader. The review presents the overview of all chapters of the book, focusing on the approach to devil in Lithuanian and Latvian folklore, pointing out the characteristic features of the devil and their differences in the folklore of both nations. Great attention is paid to “Baltaragio malūnas” [Whitehorn’s Windmill] by Kazys Boruta. The reviewer notes that this novel as if stands out of the tradition of depicting the devil in European literature, because its essential roots lie in the Lithuanian folklore.
