LTRecenzijoje aptariamas BBC laidų vedėjo Bill Mc Farlan knygos vertimas į lietuvių kalbą "Kalbėk paprastai ir suprantamai. Kaip pasirinkti tinkamus žodžius, teisingai perteikiančius jūsų mintis". Recenzijos autoriaus nuomone, paprastumo ir aiškumo užmojai pakimba ore, jeigu pasirenkamos netaisyklingos ar ne pačios tinkamiausios žodžių formos ir su jomis sudarytos konstrukcijos. Matyti, kad vertėja lietuvių kalbos faktais yra pakeitusi kokius nors angliškų žodžių ar posakių taisymus, tačiau tai niekaip neparodoma ir tinkamai neįforminama - akivaizdu, kad su lingvistiniais intarpais nesugebėta susidoroti. Negalima nutylėti ir raštingumo. Šiuo atžvilgiu knygos teksto tvarkytojams taip pat tenka daug ką prikišti. Dar blogesni skyrybos reikalai - apie 180 puslapių turinčioje knygoje - daugiau kaip 40 skyrybos klaidų. Aptaręs vertime gausius gramatikos, leksikos, stilistikos neatitikimus, recenzijos autorius konstatuoja, kad lietuviškame knygos pavadinime deklaruojamo paprasto ir suprantamo kalbėjimo tekste neretai tenka su žiburiu ieškoti; daug kur anglišką mąstymo būdą ir anglų kalbos gramatiką kopijuojanti knygelė, turinti nemažai kalbos klaidų bei smulkesnių trūkumų ir daugybę skyrybos klaidų , rodo, kad skaitytojams teikiamas nerūpestingai išverstas ir prastokai parengtas tekstas. Kyla reikalas plačiau svarstyti vertėjų kvalifikacijos ir atsakomybės už savo darbą klausimus - prisimintina seniai žinoma tiesa: vertėjas privalo gerai mokėti ne tik kalbą, iš kurios verčia, bet dar geriau tą kalbą, į kurią verčiama, išmanyti ją su visais jos niuansais ir normų ribomis.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Vertimas, kalbos klaida, skyrybos klaida.

ENThe review discusses the translation of the book “Drop the Pink Elephant: 15 Ways to Say What You Mean…and Mean What You Say” by BBC anchorman Bill McFarlan into the Lithuanian language - "Kalbėk Paprastai ir Suprantamai. Kaip Pasirinkti Tinkamus Žodžius, Teisingai Perteikiančius Jūsų Mintis". In the opinion of the author of the review, the ambitions of simplicity and clearness are left hanging in the air, in case incorrect or not the most suitable forms of words are selected and structures are formed with such words. It can be seen that the translator replaced certain corrections of English words or sayings by facts of the Lithuanian language, however it is not shown, i. e. it is obvious that the author did not manage to handle the linguistic intermissions. The literacy is another aspect to highlight. To this end, the editors of the text of the book can also be reproached. Punctuation is another thing to reprove – the book of less than 180 pages contains more than 40 punctuation errors. Upon discussing the discrepancies of grammar, lexis and style, which are plentiful in the translation, the author of the review states that the simple and cleat speaking, declared in the Lithuanian title of the book is hard to find in the text – the book, containing the copied British way of thinking and the English language manner with a lot of language errors and minor deficiencies as well as plenty of punctuation errors, shows that the reader is provided a sloppily translated and prepared text, which raises the issue of a more thorough consideration of the issues of translators’ qualification and responsibility for their activities and makes one to remember the old truth: a translator must not only have good knowledge of the language, from which he is translating but also a better knowledge of the target language with all its peculiarities and norm limits.
