ENConsumer demand defines a financial product or transaction utility, and therefore the degree of novelty. This forces financial institutions to take care of their assets, regularly update them with high quality, search for profitable innovations and so on, e.g. engage in financial engineering. Financial innovations - new, hitherto not used financial instruments, methods, technologies and organizational forms - have a significant impact on economic units, countries, and the global economy. Many financial products that are now considered a matter of course and a usual thing simply did not exist quarter- century ago. Despite the recent significant increase in the flow of financial information, financial innovations in economic research and educational expression are represented completely inadequately. Most of the corresponding literature is essentially of general nature and does not take into account the distinctive features of the topic, such as the type of innovation and complementarities that particularly strengthened under the influence of the conditions and circumstances of the current stage of economic development.Insufficient level of practical understanding of certain issues and the need to move from separate to common determine great theoretical and applied significance of the problem of financial innovation and unquestionable priority of economic research in this direction. In the article it is emphasized that financial innovation is an independent economic category, expressing the corresponding relationship in development, implementation and use of innovation in financial sector. Besides disclosure of the essence and content of this concept, the main characteristics for classification of financial innovations are formulated. The main economic considerations and operational framework that stimulate emergence of innovations in the financial sphere are analyzed. The provided specific examples allow for better understanding of not only the importance of and the need for financial innovations, but also their internal inconsistency. The presented conceptual method for assessment of risk of new financial products can serve as a basis for further specific calculations. [From the publication]
