Martynas Jankus und das Deutsche Reich
LTPublikacijoje cituotuose informatorių pranešimų fragmentuose pateiktas subjektyvus žmonių ir situacijų paveikslas. Užsakovams terūpėjo laiku susekti ir atpažinti Vokietijai kenksmingus politinius veiksmus lietuvių gyvenamoje Rytprūsių teritorijoje. Martynas Jankus ir kaip publicistas ar spaustuvininkas, ir kaip leidėjas ar prekybininkas vokiečiams priklausančioje teritorijoje neturėjo priežasčių slėptis. Galima sakyti, kad iki 1918 m. nei pats M. Jankus, nei jo aplinka jokio objektyvaus pavojaus nei Vokietijos valstybei, nei vietos valdžiai nekėlė. Ši nuostata taikytina ir kalbant apie M. Jankaus aiškiai reikštą poziciją dėl lietuvių tautos vienybės. Iki Pirmojo pasaulinio karo pabaigos etninių Prūsijos ir Rusijos lietuvių susijungimas atrodė iliuzinis ir beveik neįsivaizduojamas. Kovotojai už lietuvių teises daugiau rūpėjo tik vietos valdžiai ir tik savo regione. Padėtis pasikeitė, kai pasibaigus pralaimėtam karui, prasidėjo tikra separatistinė veikla, kurios vienu iš vadovų buvo M. Jankus. Bet net tuomet Reicho valstybinės institucijos Jankumi domėjosi menkai. Po 1923 m. nei Berlynas, nei vyriausybės atstovas Gumbinėje, nors ir būta lietuvių paskelbtų deklaracijų ir kai kurių sekmadieninių kalbų kitoje Nemuno pusėje, jokio didesnio pavojaus į pietus nuo Nemuno esančioje teritorijoje neįžvelgė. Atlikti stebėjimai ir padėties vertinimo apžvalgos nesuteikė pagrindo manyti, kad šio regiono lietuviškai kalbanti gyventojų dalis galėtų siekti suvienijimo su kitapus Nemuno esančios teritorijos gyventojais lietuviais.
ENThe fragments of reports by informers that are quoted in the publication present a subjective picture of people and situations. The clients were only concerned about how to detect and identify political actions that were threatening Germany in the territory of East Prussia, where Lithuanians lived. Martynas Jankus had no reasons for hiding himself in the territory belonging to Germans neither as a publicist nor as a printer and neither as a publisher nor as a trader. We may say that neither M. Jankus himself nor his entourage caused any objective threat neither to the state of Germany nor to the local government till 1918. This attitude is to be applied while discussing M. Jankus’s clearly expressed position towards the unity of the Lithuanian nation. Before the end of First World War, the reunion of the Lithuanians of Prussia and Russia seemed to be illusory and almost inconceivable. The fighters for the rights of Lithuanians were mostly a concern of the local government and only in their own region. The situation changed when the lost war was over and a real separatist activity started with M. Jankus as one of its leaders. However, even then national Reich institutions did not show much interested in Jankus. After 1923, neither Berlin nor the representative of the government in Gumbinė discerned any significant threat in the territory south from the Nemunas, although there were several declarations published and some Sunday speeches made on the other side of the Nemunas. The performed observation and the reviews of situation evaluation did not give an occasion for assumption that the Lithuanian-speaking part of population in this region could seek reunion with the Lithuanian population in the territory on the other side of the Nemunas.
