Ar išliks tautos šaknys?

LTRecenzijoje aptariama etnologės Irenos Čepienės knyga „Lietuvių etninė kultūra. Raidos įžvalgos“ (2008). Leidinys skirtas plačiam skaitytojų ratui, norinčiam geriau pažinti mūsų tautos tradicinę kultūrą. Knygos paskirtis sąlygoja jos turinį, struktūrą, stilių, leidinio apipavidalinimą ir iliustracijas. Knygą sudaro septyni skyriai. Pirmame – baltų ir senoji lietuvių kultūra. Jame skaitytojas patraukliai supažindinamas su seniausiais etninės kultūros klodais. Rašoma apie tautinės mokyklos kūrimą skirtingais laikotarpiais, jos mokslinius pagrindus, filosofų, kultūrologų ir edukologų darbus. Penktas knygos skyrius – dabarties problemos. Aptariamos skaudžios okupacijos dešimtmečių pasekmės, oficialiosios ideologijos vykdytas etninės kultūros naikinimas. Čepienės knygą prasmingai papildo priedai: šeštas skyrius – rašytinių šaltinių ištraukos nuo seniausių laikų iki XX a. pabaigos; septintas skyrius – įžymių asmenybių mintys apie lietuvių etninę kultūra.

ENThe review discusses the book “Lietuvių etninė kultūra. Raidos įžvalgos” [Lithuanian Ethnic Culture. Developmental Insights] by ethnologist Irena Čepienė (2008). The publication is targeted at a large group of readers who wish to better know the traditional culture of our nation. The purpose of the book determines its content, structure, style, typography and illustrations. The book consists of seven chapters. The first chapter focuses on the Baltic and old Lithuanian culture. It attractively presents the oldest layers of ethnic culture. The second and third chapters cover two later periods of the development of ethnic culture: the 14th–18th c. and the 19th c. – the beginning of the 20th c. The second chapter analyses the ethnic culture of Lithuanian feudal society. The third part discusses the influence of ethnic culture on increased national awareness. A section about the traditions of a peasant family, including wedding, christening, funeral, and child upbringing, is particularly interesting. The two other chapters focus on educational problems. They write about the establishment of a national school in different periods, its scientific grounds and the works of philosophers, culturologists and education scholars. The fifth chapter touches upon the present problems. It discusses the painful consequences of the decades of occupation and the destruction of ethnic culture carried out by the official ideology. The book by Čepienė is meaningfully supplemented with annexes: the sixth chapter gives extracts from written sources from the earliest times until the end of the 20th c.; and the seventh chapter provides the thoughts of prominent figures about the Lithuanian ethnic culture.
