Raseinių krašto savivalda 1918-2008 m.: straipsnių ir dokumentų rinkinys, skiriamas 90 metų Raseinių krašto savivaldos sukakčiai

ENThe region and city of Raseiniai have a peculiar history of establishment, the development of which was influenced by historical processes, events and changes in geopolitical factors influencing the whole of Lithuania. The book presents a compilation of documents reflecting events of 1918–1928 and describing a significant stage of the history of the region of Raseiniai. The book starts with extracts from recollections by Konstantinas Žukas. The documents following Žukas’ recollections reflect a highly significant period lasting from autumn 1918 to winter 1919, the then pulse and realia. They reveal details, circumstances, the then atmosphere, and provide a wider picture of the events, which had a great impact on the further history of the region and city of Raseiniai. Bearing in mind that all documents of the municipality of the region of Raseiniai were destroyed during the war, the document “The History of Development of the City of Raseiniai” becomes extremely significant for the history of Raseiniai. It is a chronological review of the key decisions of the city council. Another significant historical document is a review of the work of Raseiniai county municipalities in 1918–1927 drafted by Raseiniai Municipality Council. This document contains an extensive overview of the then establishment of the regional self-governance, its further development and works accomplished. The publication enables the reader to re-open the history of the region after an 80 years’ break. The book is illustrated with facsimile copies of the documents and photos.
