ENThe 115th volume of Acta Academiae Artium Vilnensis is dedicated to a rapidly growing trend in 21st-century art and cinema: addressing complex social issues through a sensitive, personal lens, using an essayistic narrative style and a rich visual language. This approach is characterized by a loose, fragmented narrative structure, metatextual elements, reflexivity, and a strongly articulated subjectivity. The foundation for this “personal” and “emotional” shift in art and culture1 was laid in the second half of the 20th century, through the processes of postmodernization and the advent of portable cinema cameras – and later, video cameras – which enabled artists to create films rooted in their own daily experiences and those of people close to them.
