Summary / Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: Dialogas; Lyčių komunikacija; Vyrų dialogai; Vyrų ir moterų dialogai; Šiaurės panevėžiškiai; Dialogue; Dialogues of men; Dialogues of men and women; Gender communication; Subdialect of Northern Panevėžys.

ENThe article analyses the way verbal communication of men and women is reflected in a specific dialect or the phenomenon of the so-called genderlect. The study of the dialogue of men and women in Petras Rimkūnas’ stories enables drawing conclusions, which are typologically supported by the broad research of the speech of men and women. In the stories of Petras Rimkūnas one can find the dialogues of men//women as well as dialogues of men//men. However, no story has dialogues of one woman with another woman. The absence of these dialogues can be explained by the particularity of the woman’s syntax. It is likely that the reason why a woman does not start speaking first is the specific feature of woman’s speech in dialogues – it is the imitation of the man’s speech, its specular reflection. Since the woman’s speech is the specular reflection of the man’s speech, the syntax of the woman’s speech is reduced compared to the man’s syntax, the remarks are shorter, morphological forms in the speech are refused as well. In men’s dialogues, rivalry as well as the recognition of each other is obvious. In men’s dialogues there are two clearly distinguished stages, which could be identified with the carnival. In the first part of the carnival two (or more) men are trying to diminish each other and stress their advantage. In the second part the above contraposition disappears, and the participants of the dialogue emphasise each other’s parity. In men’s dialogues, when a woman is present, men speak in the first person, especially stressing their status and planning their future with pride. The speech of a woman is usually presented only as a reported speech. Verbal communication of men and women depends on the social status or the cultural situation of genders.
