Summary / Abstract:

LTJoniškis, kuris yra įsikūręs Žiemgalos lygumoje, XVI – XVIII a. priklausė Šiaulių pavietui, esančiame Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės Žemaitijos Kunigaikštystės rytiniame pakraštyje. Jo pailgos formos gatvių tinklo susiformavimą lėmė reljefinės ir gamtinės sąlygos. Joniškio archeologinių tyrimų metu pavyko nustatyti kultūrinių sluoksnių, kurie didžiojoje miesto dalyje yra sunaikinti, paplitimą bei miesto planinę – funkcinę struktūrą, lokalizuoti XVII – XVIII a. Joniškio senamiesčio ribas, 1616 – 1776 m. rotušę, XVII – XIX a. pradžios dvarvietę, rasti keletą VII – VIII a. kapų miesto centre bei retai aptinkamą ir neaiškiomis aplinkybėmis į XVII a. datuojamą kultūrinį dvaro sluoksnį patekusį seniausią Joniškyje rastą radinį, t.y. akmeninio kirvio išgrąžą, datuojamą II – I tūkst. pr. Kr. ir kt. Archeologinių, istorinių, architektūros istorijos duomenų analize, Joniškio miesto XVI – XVIII a. raida yra skirstoma į penkis laikotarpius. Surinkti Joniškio miesto archeologiniai duomenys yra naudingi ne tik šio krašto istorijai, bet ir ketinamiems restauruoti išlikusiems miesto pastatams.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Viduramžiai; Naujieji amžiai; Miestai; Kultūrinis sluoksnis; Middle Ages; New Ages; Towns; Cultural layer; Joniškis; Miestas; Tyrinėjimai; Radiniai; VI - XI a.; 17 amžius; 18 amžius; 19 amžius; Joniškis; Town; Archaeological investigations; Artefacts; 6th-11th cwnturies; 17th -19th centuries; Joniškio miestas; VI-XI a.; 17 amžius; 18 amžius; 19 amžius; Archeologiniai tyrinėjimai; Dvaras; Kapinynai; Mediniai ir mūriniai pastatai; Monetos; Keramika; Kokliai; Gyvulio kaulai; Stikliniai indai; Joniškis Town; 6-9th. cent.; 17-19th cent.; Manor; Cemeteries; wooden and brick buildings; Coins; Ceramics; Tiles; Bones of animal; Glassware.

ENJoniškis is located in Semigallia (Žiemgala) Plain, on the watershed of the Sidabrą and Audruvė rivers' basins. The natural situation influenced a plan of town's streets in the 17th-18th centuries: it took a prolonged shape. In the 16th-18th centuries the town belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Samogitian Eldership, Šiauliai Powiat. On the course of excavations, the boundaries of the old part of the Joniškis town (17th-18th centuries), a town hall (1616-1776), a place of a manor of the I7th-19th centuries, graves from the 7th-11th centuries in a centre of the town, some graves from the 2nd half of the 15th-17th centuries in Parko and Žemaičių streets had been localized. The oldest archaeological find is attributed to the Bronze Age (2000-500 B.C.). It is a bore peg of the stone axe (II-I thousand years B.C.) - that is quite a rare find, and it had emerged in the 17th century's cultural layer of the manor in undetermined circumstances. The most problematic was the period of town's origination. Although Joniškis (a church) was mentioned in 1536, (according to the latest historian L. Jovaiša's research), the 16th century cultural layers had never been found until now. The most familiar is the period of the 17th-19th centuries. During the archaeological explorations, typical to that period finds were excavated: stone pavements, remains of wooden and brick buildings, coins, ceramics, tiles, bricks, bones of animals, iron knives, nails, etc. The archaeological materials of Joniškis are analogous to the materials found in other Lithuanian towns and the towns of neighbouring Curland Duchy and Semigallia.
