Pirmoji nepriklausomos Lietuvos biologijos stotis

LT2009 m. sukanka 90 metų nuo to laiko, kai Nepriklausomoje Lietuvoje buvo įsteigta pirmoji biologinės paskirties institucija - Gamtos tyrimo stotis (GTS). Suprantant, kad 1918 m. beatsikurianti Lietuva paveldėjo vokiečių okupacijos ir karo sumaišties nualintą ūkį, o 1919 m. pavasarį neteko ir sostinės Vilniaus, didžiai vertintinas apsišvietusių lietuvių inteligentų, ypač tada grįžusiu iš užsienio šalių, kūrybinis požiūris į savos valstybės kūrimą, nesavanaudiškas noras kloti jos pamatus, neatidėliojant rūpintis ūkiu, kultūra, būsimąja studentija bei mokslu. Tai buvo kilnūs savo krašto ateičiai atsidavusių asmenų siekiai. Pagrįstai galime teigti, kad GTS, įkurta ir pradėjusi veikti 1919 metų liepos 15 d. Kaune, buvo viena priemonių, įgyvendinant šiuos siekius. Įkūrus universitetą, stotis tapo jo dalimi, tačiau dar iki 1925 m. prie GTS pastato tebekabojo jos iškaba. GTS įkūrimas ir produktyvi veikla davė pradžią kelių biologijos krypčių atsiradimui Lietuvoje, buvo labai reikšminga gamtos mokslų raidai ir pažangai mūsų krašte. Šią mintį ir paremia, ir patvirtina faktai: visas GTS sukauptas turtas atiteko susikūrusiam jaunos Lietuvos valstybės universitetui, stotis suteikė moksliškai pagrįstą pradžią dabartiniam T. Ivanausko zoologijos muziejui, neabejotinai padėjo pamatus visam Matematikos-gamtos fakulteto Biologijos skyriui. Tai svarbu istoriografiniu ir mokslotyriniu aspektais, ypač analizuojant besikuriančio Lietuvos aukštojo mokslo plėtotės aplinkybes.

EN2009 is the 90th anniversary of the founding of the first biology institution in the independent Lithuania, i. e. the Nature Study Station. Understanding that in 1918 the resurrecting Lithuania inherited the economy, exhausted by the German occupation and the war havoc and that in Spring of 1919 it was deprived of its capital city Vilnius, the creative view of resurrection of the state of the Lithuanian intellectuals, who returned from abroad and their unselfish will to lay its foundations, take care of its economy, culture, the future students and education should be highly recognized, since those were noble strivings of persons, devoted to the future of their land. One can state that the Nature Study Station, founded on 15 July 1919 in Kaunas was among the measures, which helped to implement the said strivings. Upon founding of the university the station become a part of it However, its signboard was on the building till 1925. The founding and productive activities of the station originated several directions of biology in Lithuania, the station was extremely significant for development of natural sciences in the country, which is evidenced by the following facts: all the property, accumulated by the station went to the university, the station provided a scientific basis for today’s T. Ivanauskas’s zoology museum and laid the foundations for the entire Department of Biology of the Faculty of Mathematics and Nature, which is important in the aspects of historiography and studies of science, especially analyzing the circumstances of the development of the higher education in Lithuania.
