The Popular movement and postmodernism: reflections on the cinema of Sąjūdis

LTSovietiniam režimui besipriešinantis Sąjūdžio judėjimas, ėmęs ryškėti Lietu-vos politiniame gyvenime devintojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje, turėjo ir platesnio kultūrinio fenomeno – postmodernizmo – bruožų. Petro Abukevičiaus dokumentinis filmas „Lietuva tarp praeities ir ateities“ atskleidžia pokyčius, žyminčius Lietuvos visuomenės orientaciją į praeitį, ir šiuo požiūriu gali būti lyginamas su postmoderniu kinu, kuriamu Vakarų Europoje ir Amerikoje. Posmodernios tendencijos, pastebimos Sąjūdžio judėjime, turi rimtų pasekmių ir dabartiniams Lietuvos integracijos į Europą procesams. Atmetusi sovietinį modernizacijos modelį ir siekianti naujo, europietiško modelio įgyvendinimo, Lietuva priversta susidurti su tais pačiais pavojais, kurie iškyla tradicinei etninei tapatybei bei gyvenimo būdui. Kadangi nėra aiškių atsakymų kaip šių pavojų būtų galima išvengti, verta įsisąmoninti, kad „posocialistinės“ erdvės situacija nėra iš esmės skirtinga nuo kitų Europos šalių situacijos. Postmodernizmas yra paneuropietiška reakcija į globalius modernizacijos procesus, ir nors jo kultūrinė raiška skiriasi, bendri bruožai taip pat yra akivaizdūs.

ENResistance movement of Sąjūdis against the Soviet regime emerged in political life of Lithuania at the end of the eighties, had the features of broader cultural phenomenon - postmodernism. Documentary “Lithuania between the past and the future” by Petras Abukevičius reveals the changes that represent the orientation of Lithuanian society to the past, and can be compared as such to post-modern film, which is made in Western Europe and America. Posmodern trends observed in the Movement of Sąjūdis have serious after-effects for the processes of current integration of Lithuania into Europe, too. Having rejected the Soviet model for modernization and trying to achieve the implementation of new European model, Lithuania is forced to face the same risks which emerge to the ethnic identity and traditional way of life. Since there are no clear answers how these dangers can be avoided, it is worthwhile to realize that the situation of "post-socialist" space is not essentially different from the situation in other European countries. Postmodernism is a pan-European response to global processes of modernization, and its cultural expression is different though, common features are also evident.
