Summary / Abstract:

LTTarptautinės užsienio kalbos studijų tikslas — kalbos įgūdžių formavimas — iškelia poreikį keisti mokymo(si) medžiagos turinio parinkimo principą: vietoj vienos šalies etnokultūrinio diskurso centrizmo atsiranda kultūrų pliuralizmo principas, tai lemia interkul-tūrinės komunikacijos kompetencijos ugdymą. Anglų kalbos mokytojų rengimas tradiciškai orientuotas į anglišką etninę kultūrą ir nepakankamai dėmesio skiriama informacijai apie įvairias kultūras bei interkultūrinei gimtosios kalbos kultūros komunikacijai. ENThe article theoretically deals with the issue of teaching a foreign language as an international one with the ultimate goal to develope productive and receptive language skills and to enable the learner to communicate with various culture representatives for academic and professional purposes. The study process is realised via cultural discourse as it itself suggests the semantic meaning and motivation. Still the cultural context in international English teaching is no longer limited to one English speaking country but rather to multicultural information, both English speaking and non-English speaking cultures. However, the international language study establishes direct links between the target culture and the source culture since the student is supposed to be able to analyse the first reflecting on the second. The latter principle is known as intercultural communication and is essential in the international language study. The currant article covers the survey findings on student oppinion about their competence in teaching English as an international language, awareness of multicultural discourses and suggestions of possible ways to improve the situation. Kaunas College Kėdainiai Jonušas Radvila Study Centre English Pedagogy programme 4th year students were the respondents of the survey. [From the publication]
